Comfort Zone

Comfort zone

This is my first ever blog post.

I’ve been thinking about getting started for a long time now. I’ve been putting it off and putting it off because I’m not a perfect blogger yet. Pretty obvious really as I’ve never even done a blog post before. Writing a blog would mean leaving my comfort zone.

I heard a quote last week that put things into perspective:

“It’s impossible to get better and look good at the same time”

I read it in the book “Go Pro” by Eric Worre, but the internet credits Julia Cameron for it. Either way it really got me thinking. It applies to so many situations in my “start up” life right now. There are so many tasks that I want to or need to do that I’m not an expert in. I keep putting them off because who wants to look foolish and incompetent right?

On Saturday I attended a Workshop hosted by “Die Expertin für Experten” Angela Buchmayer & Matthias Hombauer of “How to be a rockstar photographer” fame. Matthias delivered the message behind the previous quote, only in different words by a different person(Georgia Handstark).

“You don’t have to be perfect, just fu@*ing do things!”

Thanks universe for reinforcing the message. I get, I get it.

Referee

I did indeed get out of my comfort zone the next day. I refereed my sons football game. I’ve always avoided and refused to take on that role. Now I know why. It wasn’t easy, I really was uncomfortable as hell on the field. I almost stopped the game to have a word with the parents of the SC Wiener Neustadt players. The things they were shouting at me were out of order. Then just before the end of the game the coach of SC Wiener Neustadt had a right go at me. The extra time I had to add on at the end because of the coaches behaviour resulted in ASK Eggendorf scoring a goal and winning 5:4. Instant Karma. Brilliant! All in all it was an interesting experience. Nobody got hurt. I won’t be volunteering to be ref again in a hurry though.

The universe wasn’t satisfied though.

“Screw it, just do it”

I heard Sir Richard Branson saying to me today. No, not personally. I know lots of famous people but not Sir Richard yet.

So here I am. I’m blogging.

I get up to mega exciting mischief everyday. It needs to be put in writing. So why not share it. Voila, here it is.

How have you left your comfort zone this week?
